It was ok. Good enough, or perhaps a bit better. I was very lukewarm (but patient) with it, but I think it took a slight turn for the better with the big fight scene and the, um, betrayal at the end. I also liked the juxtaposition of some of the scenes.

Sometimes I felt like the words the script put into the mouths of the characters were not all that well chosen, but the structure of the script was relatively tight.

Lastly, I felt the whole thing didn't have anywhere near as "heavy" a feel as the original mini-series. Part of that was because the original V (though cheezy by today's metrics) was groundbreaking. By comparison, this seemed "light".

I think it's the difference between an hour-long show and an 80s miniseries. I remember feeling some of the same things when I watched the first new season of Doctor Who, but I felt that new series grew into the format with just a few episodes. Or rather, it took me a few episodes to acclimate to the shorter, more rapidly paced format. I suspect this show will be the same.

I haven't added it as a season pass yet, but I plan to watch the next few episodes.

Glad to hear your take on it.

"V" was one of the first things I ever watched on television -- my family got our first TV the year it came out.

My parents were big fans of Dr. Who and would routinely borrow a neighbour's tiny portable black-'n'-white to watch it, despite the fact that the show terrified my sister to the point of tears almost every time (the whole thing is kind of weird given the overtly religious nature of our household… people are strange). I can still freak her out with a properly modulated "Exterminate!"

When Dr. Who was on, I usually went out to the shop and worked on something, or absconded to play with Legos, so while it's technically the first show I ever watched (and a classic Trek Marathon at a Christmas party is the second), Who barely rated. I blame Tom Baker's silly scarf.

Anyway, "V" was a major topic of conversation with my friends at school, so I watched it to be able to participate in that. I was pretty neutral on the show, although I liked the concept quite a bit. The aliens were pretty innovative at the time, at least if you hadn't read a lot of scifi (I hadn't back then, outside of Heinlein's YA stuff).

The big finale really irked my mother, then a graduate science student. To prevent potential remake spoilers for the young-uns: her particular field of education made the deus ex machina particularly incredible to her. I thought it was a little trite, thanks to a particular radio show I'd heard about. Even so, as a child I thought the (very brief) bit with the hot air balloon as a weapon delivery vehicle was awesome.

I don't know if I'm sold on it yet or not. The fight scene was good, but I can't say it was 'cool' because I could practically hear the director telling the aliens, "Okay, now run it and kill things like you're velociraptors!"

The only really cool moment in the book was when they were doing the 'street interview' clips and the one kid said "This IS Independence Day!" and his friend blasted him that Independence Day was a rip-off. Which it was, of course, of V (I mean the ships were almost exact copies!).

Ugh man, SO bad! It makes the original look good (and having re-watched it not too long ago, it isn't).

I think the lack of choice of sci-fi/fantasy on TV makes fans less discerning.

Damn! I'm discombobulated from being back on east coast time after getting back from WFC that I totally forgot to watch this.

Great to finally meet you, btw.
